Description

Embark on a 3-day tour of the Uyuni Salt Flats and the surrealistic deserts of Bolivia. Explore the Train Cemetery, the Flags Square, and the Salt Hotel. Visit the Stone Tree, the Red Lagoon, and the Green Lagoon. Catch the sunrise at the Sol de Mañana Geysers and relax at the Polkes Hot Springs. Day 1: Uyuni Salt Flats Begin your adventure with a visit to the Train Cemetery, home to remnants of wagons from the Bolivian Railway Company. On your way to the Salt Flats, stop in Colchani town, where local shops offer handicrafts and woolen clothing. Learn about Bolivia’s salt production here. Upon entering the Salt Flats, observe a unique geological effect—aquifers formed by underground rivers within the vast Salar. Head to Flags Square, where you’ll find flags from countries worldwide. See the Dakar Monument and enjoy lunch at the first hotel made entirely of salt. It’s time for a photo session! Spend time taking panoramic, perspective, and mirror reflection photos (if available). In the afternoon, arrive at Incahuasi Island, the largest island in the salt flats. Here, find fossilized corals, giant cacti, and stunning views of the Tunupa Volcano. Witness a breathtaking sunset over the salt flats before heading to your salt-made accommodation. Day 2: Huayllajara After breakfast, drive to San Juan, a small village where you can buy snacks and use the restrooms. As you enter the desert, observe the active Ollagüe Volcano, sacred to indigenous communities. Visit the Andean lagoons—Cañapa, Hedionda, Chiarcota, and Honda—where you can spot pink flamingos, Andean ducks, and seagulls. Lunch will be served near Laguna Hedionda. After lunch, enter the Siloli Desert, one of the driest on Earth, located at 6,000 meters above sea level. Here, see the famous Stone Tree. Drive through Bolivia’s most visited national park, ending the day at the Red Lagoon, home to pink flamingos. Head to your accommodation in Huayllajara. Day 3: Uyuni Start early to catch the sunrise at Sol de Mañana Geysers, where you’ll see jets of water and steam. Relax at Polkes Hot Springs. Next, head to the Dali Desert, a surreal landscape reminiscent of Salvador Dalí’s paintings. Continue south to the Green Lagoon, situated next to the Licancabur Volcano, which forms a natural border with Chile. Here, travelers continuing to Chile will depart. On your return to Uyuni, stop for lunch and visit the Valley of the Rocks, known for its impressive rock formations. Later, visit San Cristobal Village, the last stop before Uyuni, where there is a 16th-century church and restrooms. Arrive in Uyuni around 5:30 PM.
