Description

Many writers and historians point out that the Uros men belong to the oldest region of the Collasuyo. The Polish archaeologist Arthur Posnansky affirmed that the Uros are perhaps the oldest race of the American continent. The history of the floating islands is the history of the Uros people. In Lake Titicaca we can find Uros Chulluni and Uros Titino. In this tour we will meet the Uros people, people who live in Lake Titicaca distributed according to the family they form in more than 200 islands. Each island is inhabited by 5 or 6 families, each family has approximately four children. They preserve the traditions of fishing, hunting birds and collecting eggs. The island is located 20 minutes from the city of Puno. Taquile is the largest island of Lake Titicaca, its inhabitants are known for their weavings that are recognized within the finest craftsmanship in Peru and the world. They were honored by being recognized as 'Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity'. Society based on collective work and the Inca moral code: ama sua, ama llulla, ama qˈella (thou shalt not steal, thou shalt not lie, thou shalt not be idle). A place where you can observe the culture alive in its weavings, traditions and colorful clothing with ample beauty. Living this experience is really enriching for the lifestyle they lead. ITINERARY At 7:00 a.m. we will pick you up to take you to the main port, when we arrive we will embark and together with the rest of the group we will start the trip to the floating island of the Uros, when we arrive to the island we will have two hours to listen to the explanations of the tour guide, share moments with the villagers, take a ride on the reed rafts (optional), free time and take pictures. We continue sailing for an hour until we reach Taquile Island, upon arrival we will take a walk where you can enjoy the beauty of the landscape, learn about the traditions and customs, witness a typical dance of the villagers on special dates and enjoy a delicious lunch based on local products. In the tour you will find natural viewpoints from where you can have memorable views and you can also see the snow-capped Illimani of Bolivia. At the end of the tour we return to Puno.

  • This tour includes a 30 min hike on the island of Taquile, hiking shoes are required. This tour is outdoors, the use of hats and caps is very important because of the heat.
